Dog preference? which should i get?

after much research and inquiry i have came to a conclusion that the dog i would like to get must be athletic, compassionate, medium to large, and short-haired. i have bought several dog books and have spent many hours researching breeds online. i narrowed my choices down to three distinct breeds; airedale terrier, saluki, and chesapeake bay retriever. i would very much appreciate if you guys could give me some feedback on which breed you would suggest and why, or even suggest a breed i didn't list that you would suggest but the breed must fit my requirements. thanks in advance :)
