Volkswagen Mechanic Job?

I want to go to college to become a car mechanic, and eventually a Volkswagen mechanic for my local dealership. The problem is I have no experience with cars whatsoever. Should I have any basic knowledge before going to college? I am in 10 grade and I plan on graduating by the way, so I still have two years to think about it.
